We are about to begin the process of reviewing the Housing Allocation Policy.

This important policy sets out the rules on how council housing in South Lanarkshire is allocated and the circumstances in which applicants are given priority for housing.

A key focus for the review will be to ensure that the policy continues to take into account local needs and circumstances, while complying with legislation.  Throughout the review we will work closely with tenant representatives, other customers and stakeholders to obtain a wide range of views, which will help to inform the development of the revised policy.

At the same time, we will also be carrying out a review of the Gypsy/Traveller Allocation Policy, which details how vacant pitches at the council’s two sites in Springbank Park, East Kilbride and Shawlands Crescent, Larkhall are allocated.

Formal consultation on both policies is expected to take place in the Spring of 2026, and there will be a range of ways for customers to get involved and have their say.

An update on the review of these policies will be provided in the next edition of the Housing news.

If you would like to get more involved in policy reviews or wider housing issues, please email Hannah Beaton, Tenant Participation and Engagement Officer with the South Lanarkshire Development Support Project.
